Greenpeace has successfully managed to take environmental issues and its campaigns to schools and students for a long time now. We call this initiative the ‘Green warrior’ programme.

The Green warrior program has a dual purpose of educating schools and students about the most pressing environmental issues and also help the organization to raise funds.
We are now looking for a co-ordinator based in Chennai/Bangalore/Hyderabad to manage this programme.

About you

You like to stand in front of a room-full of schools kids and talk to them about environmental issues.  You like creating and executing activities for kids. You are confident to speak to the Head/Principals at schools and convince them to give you permission for this work. But you are also goal-oriented and target driven as this job has fundraising targets too.
You may not have prior experience doing all the jobs in this list but if you have any experience working with educational institutions and making presentations to large groups you could do this job.

The Job

A) To educate and empower students in Environmental conservation
B) To establish a connection between a campaigning organization like Greenpeace with grass root community of students.
C) Help run and execute activities with Green/Eco clubs in schools and make it autonomous
E) Ensure fundraising objectives of Greenpeace are fulfilled through Green warrior program
Schools & Parents:
  • Prepare & review the curriculum of Green warrior programme
  • Propose curriculum to schools and seek permission to execute the programme
  • For each school, identify a teacher as point person for Greenwarrior
  • Engage students with curriculum of Green warrior
  • Involve parents in activities of Greenwarrior
  • Review/audit the performance of students through teachers assistance
  • Maintain a database of the Schools approached so that regular updates/materials(newsletter, events etc) can be given to the school even when we are not going there regularly
  • Organize small scale local environmental camps/activities with students and educating/help bring change in people’s mind about environment.
  • Help run and execute acitivities with Green/Eco clubs in schools
Fund Raising:
  • Make appeals to parents for contributions
  • Identifying ways of reaching out to parents through initiatives of Greenwarrior
  • Lead a team of 2-3 members to co-ordinate the work with parents
  • Ensure fundraising targets are fulfilled
  • Provide regular training/feedback to team members
Co-ordinate with volunteers & civil society groups
  • Involve volunteers and civil society groups relevant to Green warrior curriculum
  • Assist the campaigns team with activities in schools
  • Conduct volunteer induction programmes

Good presentation skills
Good networking skills
A self starter
Experience and ability to design and execute activities in schools
